Today turned out to be a great day. After being depressed last night and feeling so overwhelmed, Friday was such a relief. Last night I was stressing about my chemistry test and my bio lab. I was also depressed about the fact I was not able to be with friends whom I felt like needed me more now than ever and also not being able to be with those friends who I needed more than ever. I was also very overtired from the week and all it had brought. Most of the floor was able to go to a free dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse, go to the Syracuse Symphony, and get a free t-shirt. (Can you tell college kids love free things?) However after being signed up for weeks, I realized at 1:00 in the morning that I had stats. The bus was leaving earlier than expected and I guess I never put two and two together. I also had so much going on that I missed the second episode of my favorite TV show ever this season. And yeah, that isn't a huge deal, but it is the only show I watch and just after being stressed, it was one more thing to add to the list. Going to bed upset and frustrated, I prayed until I fell asleep. At this point, you are probably thinking that I'm only blogging about bad things happening.
Moving on, everything seemed to work out the way it had for a reason. I had forgotten that my sister had dance on Thursday nights down in Fayetteville, about 10 minutes from Le Moyne. I got a surprise phone call from my mom asking if I wanted to go out while Leah was at dance for hot chocolate. I had a lot to do, but I needed a break from everything so I went, thinking it was against my better judgment because of the work I had but, I just needed a break. Everyone was gone on my floor anyway. The hour or so we spent together was a short, but good time. Many times students can't wait to go to college to get away from their family, but you miss them, and you miss your mom's homemade meals, and you miss them being able to help you figure even the smallest things out, and just being able to talk. This is where the Spaghetti Warehouse and Syracuse Symphony comes into play. If I had gone, I wouldn't have been able to spend that time with my mom. And, I was still able to get free pizza after everyone got back because they had enough. I skipped Grey's Anatomy because after taking that break with mom, I knew I really had to study for that dreaded chem test. Anyway, they post the episodes online so I'll see it anyway! The studying I did instead paid off, not that I'm saying it was a lot of studying, because it wasn't. I was having a hard time focusing and retaining due to stress and such. However, I walked away from that chem test feeling better about it than if I had watched Grey's and went to the Symphony because it would have been that much less studying. And although I didn't get to my bio lab for the time I had hoped, I did alright on the bio lab quiz. I only missed one and that question wasn't even in the reading so I was very happy about that. After the normal part of my Friday ended, the day only got better! My roommate and I rearranged our room and I mean, who doesn't find that exciting? Then, because I didn't go home or go visit friends like I wanted to Thursday night, I had a great night tonight. I felt like I bonded with two of my friends here and we just had a fun time coloring, (yes, we still do that) going to the dance party downstairs in the dorm basement, and playing an intense game of cards. Sure, many college kids don't find that the most exciting way to spend a Friday night, as proved by once again, hardly anyone being on the floor, but, I'm just not into the "let's go party and get drunk and puke till we pass out" type of thing. Call me a loser, but I just don't want to participate in that. This was probably my best weekend of college thus far though. Had the whole visiting thing worked out like I had hoped, this wouldn't have happened. As much as I miss people, I also feel that I need to bond with people I am at school with now. I live, eat, and go to school with them. I'll be with them for the next few years. Establishing strong friendships and bonds is important. I feel like tonight did just that, which was good because I have been thinking that I don't have many close close friends here yet and this helped.
So looking back, although I didn't see it then, everything worked out Thursday night for a reason. I had a great day today. Let this be a reminder that there are reasons to everything in life, God has a plan.
